H O P E

One of my friends sent me a poem or a "Shayari" that he had found on "Hope".
I was full of inspiration this morning as I attempted to complete or add on to that poem with my thoughts.

First post of the year and yes the year is full of H O P E!

Walking alone and destination seems to be long.
No light in the sight and path full of thorns.

Even the slightest task seems to be uphill.
And my confidence tumbling downhill.

But..there is small hope deep hidden in the heart..
which says till last breath fight very hard..

Bravery and courage will then become your friends..
Giving you a valor to go on; Then all fear ends..

- Sameer

If you look deep within, you will find,
The hero is inside, not behind

Dont look at all the ladies in the rear,
They are just wishing you success, my dear!

And then at long last when the sun does rise,
Yeah, full tank the petrol, dont you look at the price,

Drive on, you still have a long way to go,
If a beautiful face wants to hop'e on, don't say No!

A caged bird

"Once upon a time, there was a bird. He was adorned with two perfect wings and with glossy, colorful, marvelous feathers. In short, he was a creature made to fly about freely in the sky, bringing joy to everyone who saw him.

One day, a woman saw this bird and fell in love with him. She watched his flight, her mouth wide in amazement, her heart pounding, her eyes shining with excitement. She invited the bird to fly with her, and the two traveled across the sky in perfect harmony. She admired and venerated and celebrated that bird.

But then she thought: He might want to visit far-off mountains! And she was afraid, afraid that she would never feel the same way about any other bird. And she felt envy, envy for the bird's ability to fly.
And she felt alone.
And she thought: 'I'm going to set a trap. The next time the bird appears, he will never leave again.
The bird, who was also in love, returned the following day, fell into the trap and was put in a cage. She looked at the bird every day. There he was, the object of her passion, and she showed him to her friends, who said: 'Now you have everything you could possibly want.'

However, a strange transformation began to take place: now that she had the bird and no longer needed to woo him, she began to lose interest. The bird, unable to fly and express the true meaning of his life, began to waste away and his feathers to lose their gloss; he grew ugly; and the woman no longer paid him any attention, except by feeding him and cleaning out his cage.

One day, the bird died. The woman felt terribly sad and spent all her time thinking about him. But she did not remember the cage, she thought only of the day when she had seen him for the first time, flying contentedly amongst the clouds.

If she had looked more deeply into herself, she would have realised that what had thrilled her about the bird was his freedom, the energy of his wings in motion, not his physical body."

coffee - your place and mine...

Close friends - people who bring out the best in your life and with whom you don't have to think twice before asking for anything. Sometimes they move on in life for a lot of things and then suddenly you find yourself lonely (Sanju please come back )
Friends - they are your life and blood
remember playing with them in the mud?
You are with them breakfast, lunch or dine
and of course - "Coffee - Your place or mine?"
You walk with them through life, the thicks and the thins
You share everything with them, even your pair of jeans!
When you are together, you are always on cloud nine
and yes it is always Coffee - your place or mine?
You care for them, by them you swear
Anything with them, you could dare to bare
However something changes, somewhere down the line,
and suddenly it is Coffee - your place AND mine!
All of a sudden, they seem to be so distant and far
and hardly ever do you find yourselves watching the same star
No more can you tell them "Let's meet up at nine"
because it is still Coffee - your place AND mine!
[Well for the record - 'Coffee your place AND mine' is meant to be a metaphor where each of you has coffee, but it is not at the same place or time!]
At this point it does sound incomplete, doesn't it? It is meant to be. Time heals, Time also reduces distances and hopefully Time will also complete the final verse one day!

half n half

Though the title refers to a type of milk that we get in Minden, this is not what the post is about :)
It is something that Udi did to Anu that caused me to think about similar things I used to do to Utkarsh as a kid!
Let us discuss Udi first.
They get to taste tea occasionally. Smitha once gave Udi a full hot glass of tea that she couldn't hold while Anu cooly picked up the other one that was only half filled. However the angel that Anu is, she was feeling bad that Udi wasnt able to drink her tea. So she walks up to Udi and says "Take Udi", offering her own glass of tea.
Udi picks up that glass and drinks almost all of that tea. Just a few sips are remaining. After waiting for a while, Anu tries to pick up the other glass that Udi wasnt able to lift. Udi promptly refuses. Tells her "Take this, this is ur glass" and hands her the remaining sips. What shrewdness!

Cut to 28 yrs or so earlier.
Uday and Utkarsh get some pocket money every day. Both of them decide to piggy bank it rather than spend it. Utkarsh hits upon a brilliant idea that they should save the money together in a single piggy bank. That way it will grow faster. Uday promptly agrees. However since Utkarsh is elder he gets twice as much pocket money as Uday does. Uday is aware of this fact. Now Uday lets this corpus grow for a while and then picks up a fight with Utkarsh one fine day. When there seems to be no resolution in sight, Uday coolly tells Utkarsh, "Henceforth we will not save our money together. Give me my equal half of he corpus and we will dissolve the patnership"
ekdum Udi style na?

Jala do ise... phoonk dalo yeh duniya

Yeh mehlo, Yeh takhto, Yeh Tajo ki duniya
Yeh insaan key dushman samajo ki duniya
Yeh daulat key bhooke, ravajo ki duniya
Yeh duniya agar mil bhi jaye toh kya hai?

...

Jala do ise, phoonk dalo yeh duniya
Mere saamne sey hatalo yeh duniya
Tumhari hai, tum hi sambhalo yeh duniya
Yeh duniya agar mil bhi jaye toh kya hai?

Some times things are very depressing and then suddenly you remember that song from Pyasa where Gurudutt is standing in front of a door and singing it.

Well, why I started this post in the first place was because of the "Jala do" lyrics but then got into a depressing tone :) Nevertheless let us get straight to the point:

Sometimes things that happened in the past, the not so successful relationships that you have had in the past hold you back quite a bit. The memories continue to haunt you. Sometimes so much that they prevent you from "moving on"! Even if you conciously try to move on, you get a strong pushback! One simple solution to this as was illustrated in the movie Jab V Met seemed to be very effective!

Kareena makes Shahid burn the photograph of his ex-girlfriend. And strangely after he does that he feels very "free". For some reason, that simple token act of burning that image meant so much to him! I think it was an excellent and very effective solution!

Jala do...

more on friendship...

"zindagi milke bitayenge,
hale-dil gaake sunayenge,
hum toh saat rung hai,
yeh jahan rangeen banayenge..."

i was thinking about this on my way to work today. in rock on (the movie) the friendship between arjun rampal and farhan akthar in the initial stages was as strong as it could get, wasn't it? I mean atleast from arjun's view point. no questions asked, always ready to fight for his friend - gives the competitor that tries to act smart with farhan dhapadhap! solid heart2heart friendship. with an opportunity to meet sanju in january, this got me thinking how times have changed and how one misses that quality of selfless friendship.

in reality, friendships have to bear the weight of other commitments in life that either separate you physically or makes you reassign priorities which breaks that basic thread of the relationship. how complex certain things are!

i miss that dhapadhap friendship and don't know if it might ever happen again in life...

rock on

amazing lyrics from this favorite "Rock On" number. very thought provoking!
each time i feel i am not being myself at home - i am inspired to see "Rock On" again!
dedicate this to anita:

"aankhon mey jiske koi toh khwaab hai
khush hai wohi joh thoda betaab hai
jindagi mey koi aarazoo kijiye
phir dekhiye

Ootho mey jiske, koi toh geet hai
woh harey bhi toh, uski hi jeet hai
dil mey jo geet hai, gunguna lee jiye
phir dekhiye

yaadon mey jiske, kisi ka naam hai
sapnon key jaisi, uski har shaam hai
koi toh ho jise, apna dil dijiye
phir dekhiye

khwaab buniye zara,
geet suniye zara
phool chuniye zaraaa
phir dekhiye..."

Gin Soaked Boys

We used to have "a song for the day" when Sanju baba was around. Stopped sometime back after life's other burdens overcame the urge to stand and stare at the boughs!
After hearing this song today on the way to work, I couldn't help but send it out as the song for today! I found the tune and the lyrics amazing - especially the ones that are underlined! This one is for you Sanju - I love you!

I was actually inspired by a new friend - Magno that made me get into the mood to reopen my blog! I realized that I actually skipped one full year without a single post! Thanks Magno...

The Divine Comedy -Gin Soaked Boys

I'm the darkness in the light
I'm the leftness in the right
I'm the rightness in the wrong
I'm the shortness in the long
I'm the goodness in the bad
I'm the saneness in the mad
I'm the sadness in the joy
I'm the gin in the gin-soaked boy, the gin-soaked boy
Ba ba ba ba de la da...

I'm the ghost in the machine
I'm the genius in the gene
I'm the beauty in the beast
I'm the sunset in the east
I'm the ruby in the dust
I'm the trust in the mistrust
I'm the Trojan horse in Troy
I'm the gin in the gin-soaked boy, the gin-soaked boy
Ba ba ba ba de la da...

I'm the tiger's empty cage
I'm the mystery's final page
I'm the stranger's lonely glance
I'm the hero's only chance
I'm the undiscovered land
I'm the single grain of sand
I'm the Christmas morning toy
I'm the gin in the gin-soaked boy, the gin-soaked boy
Ba ba ba ba de la da...

I'm the world you'll never see
I'm the slave you'll never free
I'm the truth you'll never know
I'm the place you'll never go
I'm the sound you'll never hear
I'm the course you'll never steer
I'm the will you'll not destroy
I'm the gin in the gin-soaked boy, yeah, the gin-soaked boy
Ba ba ba ba de la da...

I'm the half-truth in the lie
I'm the why not in the why
I'm the last role in the die
I'm the old school in the tie
I'm the spirit in the sky
I'm the catcher in the rye
I'm the twinkle in her eye
I'm Jeff Goldblum in "The Fly"
Who am I?
